W.K.F
World Karate Federation was formed in 1990 from former WUKO members and is the largest international governing body of karate with over 130 members’ countries. It is the only karate organisation recognised by International Olympic Committee and has more than 10 million members. WKF organises the junior and senior world karate championships which are each held every other year.

W.K.F Kumite rules

• The referring panel for each match shall consist of one referee (SHUSHIN), four judges (FULUSHIN) and one match supervisor (KANSA).
Kumite scores are as follows
a) IPPON – three points
b) WAZARI -two points
c) YUKO – one point
• IPPON is awarded for
a) Jodan kicks
b) Any scoring technique delivered on a thrown or fallen opponent
• WAZARI is awarded for chudan kicks
• YUKO is awarded for
a) Chudan or Jodan Tsuki
b) Chudan or Jodan Uchi

WARNINGS & PENALTIES
a) CHUKOKU: is imposed for the first instance of a minor infraction for the applicable category
b) KEIKOKO: is imposed for the second instance of a minor infraction for that category, or for infractions not sufficiently serious to merit HANSOKU CHUI
c) HANSOKU CHUI is a warning of disqualification usually imposed for infractions which KEIKOKO has previously been given in that about although it may be imposed directly for serious infringement,which do not merit HANSOKU.
d) HANSOKU: is the penalty of disqualification following a very serious infraction or when HANSOKU CHUI has already been given
e) SHIKKAKU: is a disqualification from the actual tournament

KIKEN or forfeiture is the decision given, when a contestant or contestant fail to present themselves when called, are unable to continue, abandon the bout, or are withdrawn on the order of the referee. The grand for abandonment may include injury not ascribable to the opponent’s action.
Ascore is awarded when a technique is performed according to the following criteria to a scoring area: A) Good form B) Sporting attitude C) Vigorous application D) Awareness (ZANSHIN). E) Good timing. F) Correct distance

W.K.F Kata Rules

1. The contestants will be expected to perform free selection (“TOKUI”) Kata during the competition.
2. When performing Kata no variation is permitted. Variations as taught by the contestant’s school are permitted.
3. The score table will be notified of the choice of Kata prior to each round.
4. Contestants must perform a different Kata in each round. Once performed a Kata may not be repeated.
